Paul Moody Worklife update::
I did consulting for a couple years after leaving GCC - Shiva's identity and product design was one of those early projects, as was MOTU's Performer midi sequencer product - I even did a 'graphics builder' for Associated Press. Next as a founder of ON Technology with Mitch Kapor explored internet like applications (ebay), shopping for info and goods online - however, we only managed to ship 2 macintosh products, ON Location (instant desktop search) and Instant Update (collaborative doc editor)(we did publish meeting maker - but that happend as i left and know little). I left ON to work at Sun Microsystems (in Billrica at the time) and designed 2 search and retrieval products (AnswerBook, Sun Group Search) before joining Lotus. I've been working in Irene Greif's 'collaborative experience research' group for the past 9 years (now 14 years at Lotus/IBM total), helping to come up with 'the next big thing' - which we've done with Domino (web facing side of Notes), Sametime (our Instant Messaging and eMeeting system), and a project that I started about 3 years ago called "Reinventing Email" which has recently been transferred into product as a replacement email for Notes. My current work is around contextualizing informal work around formal business processes (a very IBM thing to do). Before all this, I worked to bring GUI's to 1-2-3, and eventually all of Lotus SmartSuite - most of that work is still the 'standard' in our current products. I moved to Atlanta for a year to redesign Ami Pro into WordPro, hated living there, and returned to design Lotus Components for Notes
(group commenting tool and project scheduling applets). I also designed and managed the deployment of Lotus' first online ecommerce website using a beta of OpenMarket's transact server (way back in 1996 - the first user tests were truely funny - like early TV + naive web user). I then joined the research group, which in 2000 became part of IBM Research's Watson labs in Cambridge. In addition to my research projects, I'm also active with design-oriented students at both MIT's Media Lab and Harvard's Design School where I sit on PhD/DDesign thesis committees for a student in each program. This summer I'm mentoring two interns - both MIT CS rising seniors, and I'm mentoring two IBM'er - one a researcher in Beijing, the other a senior designer in the Notes product group in Westford. I also manage the IBM-Media Lab relationship where we participate in a number of sponsor related events. I'm in my Cambridge office most Tue and Wed's returning to VT Thur eve.

Moody FamilyLife update::On the personal side, in 1999 we moved the family to northern Vermont from southern NH, where we had lived for 13yrs - same town as Marshall Peck. We now live 10 miles north of Stowe - where we have an entertainment farm (ok, that's a made-up term, but we've had chickens, goats and ducks, etc. - all for entertainment purposes.) It is beautiful up here, we can see about 65 miles south to Killington on a clear day. I split my time between VT and Cambridge where stay in my apartment (Tuesday and Wednesday most weeks), and work from home in VT the other days (Mon + Fri = 'dial-up only' as we live on the edge of the grid). Most summer mornings in VT, I kayak on a state park lake next door that is paddling and wilderness camping only (sorry, no cell phone coverage). When in MA, I kayak evenings on the Charles or the harbor around Castle Island. In the winter, I snowboard mornings at Stowe with friends from burton - insane fun - we rode about 70 times last season. The kids are growing up fast. Ean is 19 now, a rising Sophomore at Ringling School of Art and Design (Sarasota FL) - in a program specializing in art and design for the movie and video game industries (alums in Pixar, EA, ILM, etc.) - he's focusing on character development and illustration. My youngest, Cameron is 16 and just started drive (scion xB). He's also into video games, making Director animated movies (think simple southpark game used to show 'how a bill becomes law' for his history class), he wants to be a game developer, a movie director or an artist . My wife Betheny just completed her MA in Psychology (Goddard College, Mar05) majored in trauma psychotherapy for children, and this past week started as the clinical director at a 35 kid private school (K-12). We've been married 22 years and just celebrated our 25th year together.
